On November 4, 2012 Unity claims their asset store has saved $1.4B worth of work per year since its start 4 years ago.
A ton can happen in 4 years, and, the extent that the Unity Asset Store is concerned, it positively has. Resource Store development has surpassed even that of the Unity Engine itself to turn into a commercial center where very nearly 1 million users source the assets they have to make their recreations.
what they said,
what you say about about this big birthday?
In fact, the Asset Store was a rip roaring success pretty much from the get go. Within three months of launch in 2010 there were already 10,000 Asset Store users, and the top-selling asset in the store’s first quarter made Brady Wright over $15,000. Today, top sellers make in excess of $30,000 a month.
Caitlyn’s been running the Asset Store since it started, and she’s understandably stoked: “The Unity Asset Store has made a gigantic difference – something we’re incredibly proud of! Back before we had the Asset Store, we saw indies began sharing their work with one another on the forum – code, models, tools… The Asset Store began as a little experiment to formalize that… to give it a better place than the community forum or wiki page, and to give folks an opportunity to make some money at the same time.”
“Since then, four years later, it’s become a huge shift in the way games and interactive media are made, giving anyone access to some of the best content created by the most talented game artists, programmers, sound designers and creative professionals out there.”
“People tell us constantly that the Asset Store is the most important factor in getting their games done on-time without going over budget. Meanwhile, the pool of ingenious and talented Asset Store content publishers out there who enjoy a liberating new means for making a better, more lucrative living outside of the studio production rat-race is growing at a huge rate. It’s crazy, how cool this is!”
